About Hindi Braille

Hindi braille uses Bharati Braille, the unified system for India’s scripts. Devanagari is an abugida, so a bare consonant carries an inherent “a” vowel; a following vowel sign (matra) replaces it, and the virama removes it to build conjuncts.

Independent vowels, vowel signs, consonants, the virama and the nasal/aspiration signs each map to their own cell, applied in reading order.
