Decorative looks
These five terms all point at the same three corners of Unicode: script, blackletter, and the enclosed and fullwidth forms. What separates them is weight and legibility, not a different alphabet.
Fancy text
Fancy is the highest-volume word for this whole category and the least specific one. In practice people pick script or blackletter: the looks that read as handwriting, or as a page from an old printed book. Both come out of the Mathematical Alphanumeric Symbols block, which was added to Unicode for maths notation, and neither has styled digits. A fancy name with a year in it will style the letters and leave the numbers in ordinary numerals.

Pretty text
Pretty and fancy overlap almost completely as searches, and pretending otherwise would be inventing a distinction. The one consistent difference in what people actually pick is weight: pretty leans light and legible, and away from the heavy blackletter faces. If the name has to stay readable at the size a bio renders at, stay in this set.

Cute text
Cute means round, and Unicode only has two ranges that produce it. Circled letters start at U+24B6 and come from Japanese enclosed alphanumerics. Fullwidth forms start at U+FF21 and exist so a Latin letter can occupy one CJK character cell. Neither was designed for this, and both are wide, so a cute name takes up roughly twice the visual space of the plain version and will wrap or truncate in a short field.

Funky text
Funky is a mixing instruction more than a look. The styles here are the ones that still read when you combine them: fullwidth for spacing, circled for punch, bold script for a flourish. Copy two of them and alternate words. Applying one of these to an entire line is what makes a bio look like a ransom note rather than a design.

Special characters
Special, unique and different are the same request phrased three ways: "not the normal alphabet", with no particular look in mind. These four read most clearly as a deliberate choice rather than a rendering fault, which matters: styles built from rarer code points can look to a reader like your text is broken. If what you actually want is symbols rather than styled letters, the kaomoji and Lenny Face libraries are the right pages.

Chaotic and edgy looks
Weird, crazy and freaky are three words for one search, and the sets below overlap on purpose. The real differences are small and worth knowing: weird is disorientation, crazy adds spread and overlay, freaky is damage stacked on top of the letters.
Weird text
Weird is disorientation rather than damage, and upside down text is the clearest example of how these tools really work. Nothing is rotated. The generator reverses the character order and swaps each letter for an unrelated Unicode character that happens to look like the flipped shape, so a becomes ษ, which is U+0250, a turned a from the IPA vowel set. Because the result is genuinely different letters, no platform can normalise it back, and it survives being saved anywhere it is accepted at all.

Crazy text
Crazy differs from weird mainly by adding motion: the fullwidth spread and the strikethrough overlay. Watch the length here. Strikethrough appends a combining mark after every single character, so a 15 character name becomes 30 code points, and most name and bio fields count code points rather than what you see. A name that fits plain can be rejected as too long once it is styled.

Freaky text
Freaky, in the sense the term is used on TikTok, is the corrupted look: combining diacritical marks stacked over and through the letters. This is the heaviest style on the page. The glitch style adds two marks per character, so five letters become fifteen code points, and it is the one most likely to be rejected outright by a name field or to render as a row of boxes for someone on an older device.

Emo text and emo names
Emo names lean blackletter with damage layered over it. Blackletter is real typographic history, it is how European printing looked until the nineteenth century, and Unicode encodes it as fraktur for mathematical use. That origin leaves a visible seam: the capitals C, H, I, R and Z were already in the Letterlike Symbols block and were not duplicated into the fraktur range, so on some devices those five capitals render at a slightly different weight to the rest of the word.

Meme text
Meme text is mostly not a Unicode problem. The Impact caption look is an image with text burned into it, and nothing here reproduces it. What does travel as text is bold for a punchline, fullwidth for the s p a c e d out ironic voice, and small caps for deadpan delivery. If you need the actual captioned image you need an image editor, not a text generator, and no copy and paste tool will get you there.

These three are the sets that stay legible. They are also the ones where the honest answer is sometimes that Unicode cannot do what you are asking for.
Cool text
Cool is the vaguest term on this page and one of the highest volume. Stripped of the vagueness, what people reliably pick is the sans-serif family plus the geometric sets. They look designed rather than decorated, they keep their shape at the size a username renders at, and they are the safest of everything here for anything a stranger has to read.

Futuristic text
Unicode has no futuristic letters, and any tool implying otherwise is selling you a substitution. Monospace, double-struck and fullwidth read as technical because of where they came from, terminal type, blackboard maths notation and CJK character cells, and that is as close as copy and paste text gets. A genuinely futuristic look needs a real typeface, which is what the techno and futuristic shelf further down is for.

Tiny, small and extremely small text
There is no small-size alphabet in Unicode. What exists is superscript letters, borrowed from the phonetic extensions, and small capitals, borrowed from the IPA. Neither set is complete: Unicode has no superscript q and no small-capital x, so those two letters always come through at full size and there is nothing any tool can do about it. Any generator claiming a complete tiny alphabet is quietly substituting a lookalike from another script, which is what makes some tiny text fail to render for other people.

Styling a name, a handle or a wordmark
This is where most of these styles fail, and the reasons are specific enough to be worth reading before you paste anything into a profile.
Styling a name
Names are short, so the constraint is glyph coverage rather than character count: what matters is whether the person reading it has a font that covers the block you used. Script and double-struck have the widest device support of the decorative sets. Neither has digits, so a name with a number in it will style the letters and leave the number plain, which is usually the giveaway that something was run through a generator.

Usernames and handles
Two separate things go wrong here, and they get confused with each other constantly. First, the @handle on Instagram, TikTok and X is restricted to plain letters, digits, dots and underscores, so nothing on this page can go in it. The display name is a different field and usually accepts styled text. When someone says they saw a styled username, they saw a display name.
Second, several platforms run Unicode compatibility normalisation, NFKC, when they save an identifier. NFKC maps every mathematical, circled and fullwidth letter straight back to plain ASCII, which is why a bold name saves and comes back as ordinary text with no error message. The four styles above are built from characters NFKC leaves alone. Every style in the tool at the top of this page is labelled with which of the two groups it falls into, and that label is computed by running the actual output through NFKC rather than read from a list.

Logos and wordmarks
Copy and paste text is the wrong tool for a logo, and it is worth being blunt about why. These characters render in whatever font the viewer's device supplies, so a wordmark built from them looks different on every screen and disappears entirely on any device missing the glyphs. A logo has to be one fixed shape you control. It needs a real typeface, licensed for the use, converted to outlines. The styles above are fine for a placeholder while you are still deciding, and the logo and wordmark shelf below links real faces with their licences attached.

What these styles actually are
None of this is a font. Every style on this page is a set of separate characters that already exist in the Unicode standard and happen to look like styled Latin letters. Most of them come from the Mathematical Alphanumeric Symbols block, U+1D400 to U+1D7FF, which was added in Unicode 3.1 in 2001 so that a bold x and an italic x could mean different things in a mathematical formula. Nobody encoded them for social media bios. That is why the collection has the shape it has, and why it has holes.
The holes are the interesting part. Several letters had already been encoded years earlier in the Letterlike Symbols block, U+2100 to U+214F, and Unicode does not duplicate characters, so those positions in the maths block were left permanently reserved. Script capital B is โฌ at U+212C, not where the pattern says it should be. Italic lowercase h is โ at U+210E, the Planck constant. Fraktur C, H, I, R and Z are โญ, โ, โ, โ and โจ. A generator that just adds a fixed numeric offset to each letter produces missing glyphs at exactly those positions, which is the single most common bug in tools like this one.
Three further gaps are worth knowing before you copy anything. Digits only exist for bold, monospace, double-struck, sans-serif, sans bold and fullwidth, so script, fraktur, italic and bold italic leave numbers as plain ASCII. Accented letters have no styled forms at all, so this tool decomposes text first, styles the base letter, then re-attaches the accent, which is why Schรถne comes out fully styled rather than half converted. And small caps and superscript are not a Unicode block at all, they are ad hoc collections borrowed from the IPA and the phonetic extensions, which is exactly why they are missing a letter each.
Strikethrough, underline and the glitch effect work differently again. They leave your letters alone and append combining marks after each one: U+0336 for the strikethrough overlay, U+0332 for the underline, and a rotating set from U+0300 to U+036F for the glitch. Your text is still readable underneath, which is a genuine advantage, but the code point count doubles or triples.
Before you paste it somewhere
- 1.Normalisation is why styled names revert. A field that runs NFKC on save turns every mathematical, circled, fullwidth and superscript letter back into plain ASCII, silently and with no error. Small caps, upside down, strikethrough and underline are built from characters NFKC does not touch, so they stick. The tool at the top of this page marks each style with which group it is in.
- 2.Length limits count code points, not letters. A 15 character name in strikethrough is 30 code points. In the glitch style it is 45. Fields that look like they have room will reject it.
- 3.Search and mentions stop matching. A styled name is a different string, so nobody can find you by typing your name the ordinary way, and @-mention autocomplete will not suggest you. On a professional profile that is a real cost, not a cosmetic one.
- 4.Screen readers handle this badly. These are symbols, not letters. Assistive technology commonly reads them one code point at a time or skips them. Never style anything somebody has to read to use: rules, instructions, channel descriptions, headings.
- 5.Other people see a different device than you do. Whether a glyph appears depends on the fonts installed where it is being read. The main mathematical ranges are well covered on current Windows, macOS, iOS and Android. The Letterlike exceptions and the small capitals are patchier, which is how a name renders perfectly for you and shows two boxes for someone else.
