About This Conversion

Everything you need to know about converting between these formats

Source Format

Web Open Font Format 2

WOFF2 is an improved version of WOFF with better Brotli compression, resulting in 30% smaller file sizes than WOFF. It's the preferred format for modern web applications and provides faster page load times.

Target Format

SVG Font

SVG Fonts are defined using Scalable Vector Graphics markup and can be styled with CSS. They were primarily used for older mobile browsers but are now deprecated in favor of WOFF/WOFF2 for better performance.

Why Convert WOFF2 to SVG?

Supporting very old mobile browsers

Creating icon fonts with CSS styling capabilities

Working with legacy web projects

Achieving pixel-perfect rendering at small sizes

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about converting WOFF2 to SVG

1Why would I convert WOFF2 to SVG?

To extract letter shapes as editable vector graphics for logo design, laser cutting, vinyl cutting, or manufacturing. NOT for web fonts – you already have WOFF2 which is perfect for web. SVG is for extracting SHAPES for design/manufacturing work.

2Should I use SVG from WOFF2 for websites?

Not recommended. Keep your WOFF2 files for web use – they're the best web font format. SVG fonts are deprecated for web text. SVG conversion is specifically for extracting editable letter shapes, not web typography.

3What can I do with SVG paths from WOFF2?

Laser cutting/engraving, vinyl cutting (Cricut, Silhouette), CNC milling, creating custom logos from letterforms, animated typography for motion graphics, icon design, craft projects, embroidery digitization, and any manufacturing needing vector outlines.

4Will I get one SVG file or multiple files?

Depends on the converter. Typically either individual SVG files per character (better for manufacturing) or one SVG font file containing all glyphs. Each letter is usually 1-5KB. Only convert the specific characters you need.

5Can I edit the letters after converting to SVG?

Yes! That's the entire purpose. Open SVG files in Illustrator, Inkscape, or any vector editor. You can modify curves, combine letters, create custom shapes, extract parts of letters for logo design work.

6Does converting WOFF2 to SVG violate licenses?

Potentially. Many font licenses prohibit outline extraction. If you got the WOFF2 from a web font service, check the license. Only extract from open-source fonts (OFL, Apache) or fonts with explicit outline extraction rights.

7How is SVG different from using WOFF2 on websites?

Completely different use cases. WOFF2 is a compressed FONT for web typography. SVG extraction creates editable GRAPHICS for design/manufacturing. SVG output is not a usable font – it's vector artwork. Keep WOFF2 for web.

8Are SVG files smaller than WOFF2?

For a full font, no – SVG is much larger. A 100KB WOFF2 might become 300-600KB in SVG files (all glyphs combined). But you typically only extract specific letters you need, so individual glyph SVGs are just 1-5KB each.

Troubleshooting Common Issues

Solutions to problems you might encounter

SVG files are massive compared to WOFF2

SVG stores glyphs as verbose XML. A 70KB WOFF2 might become 300-600KB in SVG files (all glyphs combined). Only extract specific characters you need. For web fonts, keep WOFF2 – it's the best web format. SVG is for design/manufacturing.

Letters aren't editable in design software

Ensure your converter exports as SVG paths (<path> elements), not SVG font structures (<font> tags). For editable vectors, you need path data. Look for "outline extraction" or "SVG paths" export options.

SVG doesn't work in Cricut/Silhouette

Cutting machines need simple SVG 1.1 paths. Open SVG in Inkscape and re-save as "Plain SVG" to remove complex structures. Ensure paths use simple curves without filters, gradients, or advanced SVG features.

Should I replace WOFF2 with SVG on my website?

Absolutely not! SVG fonts are deprecated for web text. Performance is terrible. Keep WOFF2 for web fonts – it's the best format. SVG extraction is for design/manufacturing (laser cutting, logos, crafts), not web deployment.

Character spacing is incorrect

SVG paths don't include font metrics (kerning, tracking). Each letter is a separate graphic. You must manually position letters in your design software. This is expected – SVG extracts SHAPES for design work, not font functionality.

When NOT to Use SVG

Scenarios where you should keep WOFF2 or choose a different format

  • Web font use

Why not: SVG fonts deprecated with terrible performance
Use instead: Keep WOFF2 for web; only extract SVG for design/manufacturing
  • Need functional font

Why not: SVG extracts shapes without font metrics
Use instead: Convert WOFF2 to TTF for desktop; SVG only for design
  • Full character set

Why not: Extracting all glyphs creates 300-600KB SVG files
Use instead: Extract only specific letters; keep WOFF2 for web
